Databases and ZFS

ZFS 尽管有上佳的表现，但是在数据库应用上还是必须“应库而异”。

这篇文章介绍的5个要点可以说是每个 SA 必须了解的。

  1. Match the database block size with ZFS record size.
  2. If you have a write heavy workload, you are better off by separating the log files on a separate pool
  3. Tune down the vdev_cache using ztune.sh until 6437054 is fixed
  4. Tune vq_max_pending using ztune.sh until 6457709 is fixed
  5. Let ZFS auto-tune. It knows best. In cases were tuning helps, expect ZFS to incorporate that fix in future releases of ZFS

eWeek 权威测试显示 MySQL 4.0.1 可与 Oracle 9i 媲美

eWEEK Labs/PC Labs 可以说是做基准测试的老大了，早在 1993年 10月份他们的姐妹杂志 PC Magazine 就做过同样的测试。这次和 PC Magazine 合作测试了五种数据库在 Java 应用服务器上的表现，结果显示 MySQL 最新的 4.0.1 版本性能可以和 Oracle 9i 媲美， 垫低的当然是微软的 SQL Server 2000 。 :-)
测试的这五种数据库是：IBM 的 DB2 7.2 FixPack 5，微软的 SQL Server 2000 企业版 SP2， MySQL AB 的 MySQL 4.0.1 Max， Oracle 的 Oracle9i 企业版 9.0.1.1.1 以及 Sybase 的 ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) 12.5.0.1。

Oracle 9i 在 Red Hat 7.1 和 7.2 上的安装

本文是我在 Red Hat 7.1 （内核版本：2.4.2-2 ）和 7.2（内核版本：2.4.7-10） 上安装 Oracle 9i (9.0.1) 数据库的总结，如果需要更多的信息请参考 Oracle 的文档： Oracle9i Database Documentation for Linux。
需要说明的是， 7.1 已经得到了 9i 和 9iAS 的验证，可以参考： ” Red Hat Announces Validation Of Red Hat Linux For Oracle”，但是截止到 2001年年底，7.2 的验证还是没有通过。
